When using electric products, basic precautions should always be taken. The NEMA 14-50 plug installation must be installed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with all local electrical codes and ordinances.
Be sure to set the NEMA 14-50 plug circuit breaker (likely at the service panel) to the OFF position during the installation process. Do not restore power to the outlet until installation is complete. Failure to follow these instructions could result in shock or electrocution.
Charger Mounting Configuration
Advise your electrician to locate the NEMA 14-50 outlet at a strategic location to the charger. The outlet should be less than 2 feet away as the charger plug cable is 25 inches long.
Be sure that the charger is optimally positioned in a location that is most convenient to charging your vehicle.
Position the charger so that during charging, the charging cable is long enough to lay on the ground completely. The cable should never be suspended in the air causing stress on the cable connection points or where it could become a tripping hazard.
If the NEMA 14-50 outlet is placed outside, be sure to use an outdoor rated cover (these can be purchased at most hardware stores).
Position and tape the charger mounting template to a location whereby either the left-side or right-side screw holes are aligned over the center of a wall stud as displayed in the Charger Mounting Configuration diagram above. Be sure to adhere to the recommended installation heights.
Use a level to ensure the mounting plate template is perfectly level.
For the cable hook and plug holster, use the pencil to mark where the mounting holes are to be located. It is recommended that two of the screws of each item be fastened to a wall stud as well.
Drill through the mounting paper, cable hook, and plug holster drill marks (marked in red in the above diagram).
Align the item over its associated drilled holes and screw it in using the Philips head screwdriver or drill and Philips head screw tip.
Mount the charger enclosure by aligning the back of the enclosure to the secured mounting plate. Then slide it into the groves of the mounting plate.
Note the aligned holes at the bottom center of the mounting plate and the enclosure side plate. Use a padlock to lock the enclosure to the mounting plate if desired.
Be sure the NEMA 14-50 outlet 50 amp circuit breaker at the electrical service panel is in the OFF position. Plug the NEMA 14-50 charger plug into the outlet. You can now turn the 50 amp circuit breaker to the ON position.
Hang the cable on the cable hook and plug the connector into the plug holster. The charger installation is now complete.
NEMA 14-50 Outlet Installation (for professional electricians only)
Locate the outlet 20in to 26in from the ground.
The outlet should be installed with the ground facing up.
Be sure the outlet and charger are properly grounded. If the charger should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. The charger is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate receptacle that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
